MY NAME IS LIAM. I’m a South Africa-born, Northern California-raised, and Southern California-based film and television cinematographer working in narrative, commercial, documentary, music, and events sectors.
HELLO,
MY EXPERIENCE spans many disciplines and genres. I began as a broadcast television camera operator and producer as well as a freelance videographer filming live musical performances, events, music videos, and whatever else was needed in my small hometown. After receiving a BFA in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California I narrowed my focus to cinematography and I have since photographed dozens of short films, music videos, and documentaries. I take heavy inspiration from classical painting, journalistic photography, dramatic cinema of the 1990’s, and other realistic art movements. I prefer that the camera disappears and the images I create to feel like something you could plausibly come across in your own life.
I have also worked in camera equipment prep and maintenance at multiple facilities which has been pivotal in honing my technical skills. When I’m not the cinematographer I enjoy experimenting with light as the gaffer and color as the post production colorist. My work has screened at the LA Shorts International Film Festival, Block Island Film Festival, The Houston Internation Film Festival, Indie Short Fest, and more.
WHEN I’M NOT ON SET I like to keep busy with my other interests which certainly make their way into my filmmaking methodology. I’m immensely passionate about music, sailing, science, and the outdoors. Another fun fact is that I’m a certified EMT. I particularly love attaching myself to projects that are framed within these themes.
